Fizzy bath bomb recipe
These orange bath bombs will fizz when you drop them into your bathwater. It’s a reaction between the baking soda and the citric acid.
Ingredients
½ cup cornstarch
½ cup citric acid
2 ½ tablespoons coconut oil, melted
½ cup Epsom salt
1 cup baking soda
5 drops orange essential oil
5 drops vanilla essential oil
1 teaspoon Mica powdered soap dye (optional)
1 tablespoon dried orange peel
8 to 10 bath bomb molds
1 tablespoon water
The Mica powdered soap dye is optional. It’s used in this orange bath bombs recipe to color the bath balls. But, you can leave it out if you prefer. You just won’t have orange-colored fizzies.
All you really need to do to make homemade bath bombs is to mix the dry ingredients together in a bowl. Then, very slowly add the oils and the water until they are well distributed.
Then, just press the mixture into a bath bomb mold and allow it to dry and harden. I typically like the round molds. But, you could make flowers or hearts or stars if you prefer.
Frequently asked questions
Because the baking soda and citric acid will react together when they get wet, it’s best not to make these on a humid day. The extra moisture in the air can make them begin to fizz while you’re making them.
Should the orange peel be dried?
Yes, use dried orange peel in this recipe. Fresh orange zest will have moisture in it. And, that could cause mold to grow depending on the environment. Here’s how to dry orange peel. Or, you can buy it already dried.
Can I add glitter?
Yes, you can add body glitter to this recipe if you want to. It’s a fun variation if you are giving these orange bath bombs as a gift. A little goes a long way.
Help, I don’t have molds!
If you don’t have a mold it’s not a problem. Just put a cupcake liner into a muffin tin and press the mixture into that. Then, remove the liner before you use them. Just make sure to let them harden completely first.
How long do they need to harden?
When making this orange bath bombs recipe, let them harden for at least 24 hours. You can then package them in a container for personal use. Or, you can put them in gift bags with a ribbon to tie them shut.
