Halloween costumes inspired by movies you can make

Halloween Costumes Inspired by Movies

Since my husband and I are movie buffs, I thought it would be fun to put together a list of Halloween costumes inspired by movies. Of course, there are a lot of Halloween movies out there that we can use for inspiration. But, there are a lot of great classic movies that would work as Halloween costumes as well.

These Halloween costumes inspired by movies are fairly easy to put together. Visit your local thrift shop or consignment store for deals on clothes if you don’t already have the item in your closet. If you don’t want to make your own Halloween costume, I’ve included links to costumes on Amazon that you can buy instead.

Halloween costumes inspired by movies - zombieWalking Dead Zombie Costume

This is probably one of the easiest costumes and is especially popular since The Walking Dead started airing on television. You can wear your regular street clothes and simply add fake blood and zombie make up. I’d recommend you pick up a white t-shirt so you can splatter some fake blood on it for accent. Or get one on Amazon.

A long black dress or maxi skirt with a black shawl or a yard or two of black gauze wrapped around you and you’re all set. Go super heavy on the dramatic face makeup to finish the costume. You can be the Evil Queen from Snow White or the witch from The Blair Witch Project. Finally, find one on Amazon.

A woman dressed as Cleopatra

Cleopatra

This one might take a bit more effort but if you are able to find a white sheath dress, it would be a simple matter of finding some gold body paint and Egyptian style jewelry. So, who wouldn’t want to be Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile? Buy it on Amazon.

Halloween costumes inspired by movies - vampire

Halloween costumes based on movies with vampires

A black or red dress with a cape would work for a vampire based on Dracula. Or wear traditional street clothes to be one of the vampires from Buffy the Vampire Slayer instead. Get a little fake blood and some vampire teeth to finish the look. Find it on Amazon.

A League of Their Own

Fans of baseball may want to be one of the characters from A League of Their Own. All it will take is a baseball uniform. If you don’t have one, try white pants or a skirt, a white t-shirt, and a baseball cap. Or, do the female version with a pink shirt, top, and baseball cap. Finally, you can use red felt or red fabric paint to decorate it. Get one on Amazon.

Audrey Hepburn Halloween Costume

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Why not dress up as Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany’s? So you’ll need a little black dress, long black gloves, a large pearl statement necklace, and a small tiara or diamante hairpiece. You should be able to find almost all of the pieces for this costume at your local thrift store. Then, just put your hair up in a bun, and you have the perfect costume. Get it on Amazon.

Wednesday from the Adams Family

This is another super easy Halloween costume inspired by a movie. All you need a short black dress with a white collar and braids. If you don’t have hair long enough to braid, pick up a wig instead. Then, just make your complexion very light and you’re all set. Buy it on Amazon.

two women dressed as fairies

Tinkerbell

A tank top and shorts would form the base for a cute fairy costume. Then tie long strips of colorful fabric or scarves at the waistline for the shirt. Add tights, ballet flats and a pair of fake wings and you can be Tinkerbell or one of the fairies from Labyrinth. Or, check it out on Amazon.

Sandy from Grease

You can do this costume one of two ways. You can do her at the beginning of the show with a typical 1950’s dress and innocent look. Or, you can recreate her look at the end of the show with black leather pants, a black off the shoulder shirt, and red high heels. Find one on Amazon.
