I have a confession to make. I have a thing for makeup. OK, if you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you may not find this a huge surprise. My love of beauty products has led to a rather disorganized collection of makeup palettes. Most of them are eyeshadow palettes but there are a few random makeup palettes in there too.

How To Organize Makeup Palettes | Organizing Tips
I have a very small bathroom and my bathroom is where I apply my makeup. I like having all of my makeup palettes there so I can use whichever one I am inspired to use that day.
That means I needed to learn how to organize makeup palettes in a small area.
I have a number of small shelves in the bathroom where we keep bathroom type things like shaving cream, shampoo and other personal care items. So, I need to leave room in this area for everyone’s personal care items although at least 2 shelves are being used by me for my makeup.
I made an easy organizer out of a box from my Glossybox subscription that is the perfect size to hold all of my palettes.
Organizing makeup palettes
I covered the box with sticky wood grained shelf paper. But you could use scrapbook paper (if the room doesn’t get humid like a bathroom) or simply leave it uncovered if you want to.
I’d love to find a pretty wooden box at some point and decoupage it but for now, this cardboard box will work fine.
After the box was made, I simply stood up the palettes based on size so that I could easily see what they were. If you have a variety of different-sized palettes, you could create a divider of some sort inside the box to keep things in place.
Mine isn’t that complicated because I am constantly adding to it. I wanted to keep it very flexible. This same method would work for organizing individual eyeshadows, blushes, or bronzers.
You’d want to change the size of the box depending on what type of cosmetics you’re organizing.
Now that all of my palettes are in one place, I find that I am using them more often. Plus, I rediscovered my Too Faced Naked Eye Palette that I forgot I bought.
Before I had my palettes stashed in a bunch of different places so I forgot what I had. Now, I need to do something with my lipgloss. I just found a whole bunch that I forgot I had!

That’s a great idea, Scott. Thanks!
I need a box to organize all my makeup and beauty products. I would choose a polka dot one.
Polka dot sounds like fun, Tara!
Great tip! You have all the palettes I love too! I am much more of a nude and natural makeup kind of girl.
Me too, Amy! Super bright colors just aren’t me!
All of my palettes are in a drawer and this tends to lend to them getting damaged- I will have to take a cue from you on this and get them organized better!
If the drawer was deep enough you could add dividers. Sadly I lack drawer space 🙁
When you figure out the organization strategy for lipgloss I will be back for that one too! I wish I had all the cool palettes that you have! I am SO jealous.
I definitely will, Jenny!
