You need a few simple ingredients for this burn salve.

  • 1 cup infused lavender oil (or olive oil)
  • 2-3 tablespoons beeswax pellets
  • 5-10 drops of lavender essential oil
  • A few drops of aloe vera gel (optional)
  • A few drops of Vitamin E oil (optional)

If you do not have infused lavender oil prepared, you can use coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, or olive oil.

How to store burn salve

This salve does not need to be stored in the refrigerator unless you use coconut oil. It can be kept at room temperature for up to 6 months.

If you use coconut oil, store this in a cool place. Coconut oil will melt at 78F.

How to make sunburn salve

  • Pour the beeswax pellets into the lavender-infused oil. Microwave for 30 seconds on medium heat and then stir for 30 seconds. Repeat until all the pellets have melted.

  • Add 5-10 drops of essential oils.

  • Pour the mixture into a tin or glass container. 
  • Let it sit in a cool place without the lid on for 4-5 hours or until it fully hardens. Once it is hard, then you can put the lid on. 
  • Keep it in a dark place without much humidity.

Tips

The infused lavender oil can be made with any type of carrier oil. This recipe used avocado oil. You can use coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba oil, etc. 

You do not have to use essential oils, only if you want to add an extra lavender scent to your salve. 

If you want this to be a vegan recipe, swap out beeswax pellets for candelilla wax. 

If you do not want to use the microwave, you can use the double boiler method to heat the oil and beeswax. 

Use more beeswax pellets if you want a harder salve and less if you want a softer ointment.
