Best Essential Oils for Beginners
We hear a lot about essential oils and how beneficial they are. It seems like everyone has a diffuser or a body scrub with essential oils in it. But, which oils should you be using and why? It’s really not as simple as choosing the essential oils that smell the best.
First, what are essential oils? Essential oils are oils obtained naturally from plants through distilling. However, they are not the same as fragrance oils which are artificially made and usually created with chemicals. Download my free diffuser sheet o make your own blends.
So, there are many different essential oils that you can use depending on what your needs are. Essential oils can be diffused and added to beauty products like body scrubs. And, you can use them to freshen the air or linens by creating linen sprays.
So, here are eight basic essential oils to start with.
Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus essential oil has antiseptic qualities and is used for healing wounds, burns, and cuts. So, be sure to include a small bottle of this oil in your natural first aid kit. Learn more about eucalyptus oil beauty benefits.
Tea Tree
Tea Tree oil has been used to help with skin ailments and helps clear skin, soothe sores, fight food odors, and much more. This is one of my favorite oils to use for natural cleaning.
Frankincense
Frankincense creates a comfortable and spiritual environment with its earthy and uplifting aroma. For those that are dealing with stress and anxiety, this is a valuable oil to have in your collection.
Sweet Orange
Sweet Orange helps eliminate bad odors. Many people use it in household cleaning products. So, for those that want a linen spray that is not floral, sweet orange is a great choice.
Lemongrass
Lemongrass helps relieve muscle pain, fight bacteria, ward off insects, and reduces body aches. So, this essential oil can be added to a carrier oil like jojoba oil for a relaxing massage oil.
Peppermint
Peppermint has calming effects. So, you can use it for a variety of health conditions, soothes nausea, stomach issues, and cools overworked muscles. One of my favorite uses for peppermint essential oil is a body scrub. Finally, I love keeping a rollerball in my bag for on the go use.
Rosemary
Rosemary promotes healthy hair, clear skin, and boosts mental activity. I’ve used natural hair tonics in the past that contains rosemary essential oil.
Lavender
Lavender helps you relax. Plus, people use it regularly for the skin, to cleanse cuts, bruises, skin irritations, and more. I tend to use lavender oil in a diffuser to de-stress with at the end of a long day.
You can use lavender in any relaxing bath products you enjoy from bath bombs to homemade soap.
When choosing your essential oils, you can purchase individual oils (single oils) or you can choose blends of several essential oils. You can create a blend with oils that contain complementary properties. For example, a relaxation blend may contain lavender, sweet orange, and rosemary. An uplifting blend may contain fir needle, peppermint, and eucalyptus.

I have heard a lot about essential oils, but haven’t really tried them out yet. I stayed at the Westin in Vegas recently and they had some lavender you could rub on your wrists before bed, which was very nice.
That’s definitely one of my favorites!
