There is a lot of summer beauty advice out there right now. But, much of it is aimed at teens and young adults. While some of the advice, like wearing sunscreen and natural skin care, is good no matter what age you are, it’s not all the same. As we age, our bodies change and our needs are different. Summer Beauty Advice for Mature Women
When it comes to skin care, you are never too young to pay attention to your skin. I wish that I knew in high school what I know now about taking care of myself. Now that I’m 50, here are a few things that I wish that I had started at a much younger age.
Hair Care Tips
I’ve highlighted my hair for years to disguise the gray. Highlighting or dying your hair can dry it out. It’s important to return moisture to your hair using a restorative shampoo with natural oils and plant extracts like Philip B. Russian Amber Imperial Shampoo with Amber oil and pure plant extracts of nettle, chamomile, burdock, rosemary, sage and grape seed. It’s also color protective to help your highlight last as long as possible. Find it on Amazon.
Minimize Hair Damage
As we age, our hair becomes more brittle due to hormone changes. While restoring moisture can help a lot, it’s important to try to minimize breakage. The Scunci Multi-Colored Mixed Elastics will keep your hair back from your face without breaking the strands like other hair elastics. The Conair Root Booster Paddle Brush will gently lift your hair from the roots and help detangle snarls. Find it on Amazon.

Healthy Skin
Dipping your finger into your foundation or cover up to apply it can transfer bacteria from your skin back to the bottle. The MakeupDrop (on Amazon here) applies makeup smoothly and is anti-microbial so it does not harbor bacteria or promote mold growth. This can help keep breakouts to a minimum. If your skin looks dull and lacks the healthy glow you had when you were younger, try the DDF Skincare Brightening Cleanser (on Amazon) with AHAs to minimize the appearance of fine lines.
Natural Ingredients
As I reevaluate my beauty routine, I’m looking for more products with natural ingredients. MALIN+GOETZ Eucalyptus deodorant is both alcohol and aluminum free. It’s formulated with antiseptic eucalyptus extract and citronellyl to help keep odor at bay. The unique combination of ingredients leaves no residue or stains so you feel (and your clothes look) fresh all day. Find it on Amazon.
When you’re choosing your beauty and skin care products, take a look at what they offer and be sure that they’re supporting maturing hair and skin. It’s never too early or too late to make healthy changes and follow helpful summer beauty advice. I hope these beauty tips for summer days have inspired you.

Thank you for these product reviews. I am noticing some of the changes you mentioned in my hair and skin.
Glad to help, Helga.
I took a long break with coloring my hair and using heat on it, like a whole decade. Now I’m ready to start covering the little bit of gray that’s coming in. I like the products without ammonia and those with conditioning oils. I need to invest in a good conditioner with my new hair routine.
Conditioning is so important, Deb!
These look like great tips to use.
Thanks, Nancy!
I can appreciate these tips. As we mature we sometimes don’t know exactly what products we should use, etc.
That’s so true, Darcy!
My hair is definitely drier than in my youth! The upside is that it doesn’t need washing as often. The downside is that summer is a hair challenge!
Great list of products to try! Thanks for sharing.
Any time!
Being 44, I am definitely noticing these changes. Thank you for the info on these products, they sound wonderful.
Glad to help, Lisa.
I turn 50 next month! Milestones! I’ve had the same thoughts about wishing I knew back then, what I know today! I would have taken better care of my skin for sure. Thanks for the tip about using my fingers to apply makeup and the potential to transfer bacteria. I didn’t have a clue!
Glad to help, Dana!
Thank you for this advice and these recommendations! I’ve been trying out natural deodorants for a couple of months now, but I still haven’t quite found *the one* yet, so I think I may give the MALIN + GOETZ a try!
Glad to help, Lucy. I really love it!
