Soothe Skin After Waxing
There are a number of different types of waxes that can be used to remove body hair. The best option for sensitive skin is a sugar wax, but this isn’t commonly found at most salons. If you go in for a bikini wax, they will most likely use a hard wax. Larger areas, like your legs, are often done with a soft wax.
Before the Wax
For best results, make sure that the hair in your bikini area is trimmed to about 1/4″ in length. Exfoliate the night before to remove any dead skin cells and prepare your skin. On the day of the wax, don’t apply any lotions or creams to the area. This can prevent the wax from sticking properly. Be sure to wear loose fitting clothes and drink plenty of water. If you’re worried, you can take two ibuprofen before your appointment to help with swelling.

After the Wax
Once your bikini wax is complete, you’ll need to follow a few simple after care tips to help your skin heal and the inflammation to disappear. How long this takes depends on your skin and how often you’ve waxed in the past. Here are a few simple tips to soothe skin after waxing.
- Take a shower. Take a lukewarm shower with a gentle cleanser made for the feminine area. This type of cleanser tends to be less harsh. Avoid any exfoliating products for at least a few days.
- Apply a cold compress. Applying a cold compress to the area can help reduce inflammation. You can use ice wrapped in a soft cloth two or three times a day as needed.
- Hands off. To avoid infection, keep your hands away from the area. Dirt and bacteria from your hands can cause infections in any open pores in your bikini area.
