French Green Clay Bath Detox
If you’ve never had a clay bath, you are in for a real treat. Clay is one f the most detoxifying substances you can easily add to your warm bath.
You may have read about bentonite clay or tried a Betonite clay detox bath, but French clay is slightly different.
What is French clay?
French Green clay, also known as illite clay, is a naturally occurring clay mineral. French green clay is found in the Montmorillonite region of France.
It typically contains high amounts of iron oxide and kelp seaweed which contributes to the color.
What is Bentonite clay?
Bentonite clay is a fine powder made from volcanic ash. It’s also known as montmorillonite or Fullers earth clay.
While bentonite and French clays are great for detox baths, they have different properties.
How is this different from a Bentonite clay detox bath?
Sodium bentonite clay is known for absorbing toxins and impurities from the skin. It’s often used in face masks and detox baths.
French green clay also absorbs toxins, but it also can stimulate circulation and help with cellulite.
The minerals in French green clay can help to break down fat cells and improve circulation. This makes it an excellent choice for a detox bath if you want to improve your skin tone and reduce cellulite.
How much clay should I use for a clay bath?
The amount of clay you use will depend on your bathtub size. This recipe uses 1/4 cup, but you can use up to three to feel the full effects of the detox. I recommend starting small and moving up slowly.
Types of detox baths
There are many different types of detox baths. This green clay bath is just one example. You can also try an Epsom salt detox bath, baking soda detox bath or an herbal detox bath.
Why should I take a clay bath detox?
Detox baths are a great way to remove toxins from your body. They can also help improve circulation, reduce cellulite, and improve skin tone.
How often should I take a clay bath?
You can take a clay bath once or twice a week. If you are new to clay baths, start slowly and see how your body reacts. You can always increase the frequency if you find that you tolerate them well.
What are the side effects of taking a clay bath?
Clay baths are generally safe and have few side effects. However, some people may experience skin irritation or a rash. If this occurs, stop using the clay and consult your doctor.
What can I add to my clay bath detox?
I’ve added powdered goat’s milk soap because it helps smooth and nourish your skin. And the recipe includes rosemary because it helps control acne. Epsom salts are also included to help with the detox.
Add apple cider vinegar, aluminum-free baking soda, essential oils, grated ginger, and sea salt to the bath water if you like.
Benefits of doing a detox bath
There are many benefits of taking a clay bath. Here are some of the most common ones:
Detox Baths Can Help Remove Toxins from Your Body
Clay baths can help remove toxins from your body by pulling them out through your skin. This is especially beneficial if exposed to heavy metals or other toxins.
You can use a full-body detox or just a foot bath.
Detox Baths Can Improve Circulation
The minerals in French green clay can help to improve circulation. This can help to reduce cellulite and improve skin tone.
Detox Baths Can Help Relieve Stress
Detox baths are a great way to relax and relieve stress. The warm water and soothing clay can help to ease muscle tension and promote a sense of calm.
They also work very well in hot water to soothe sore muscles. Full body baths will be more beneficial.
Detox Baths Can Boost Your Immune System
The minerals in pure clay can help to boost your immune system. This is beneficial if you are feeling run down or have a cold.
Detox Baths Can Help with Weight Loss
Clay baths can help with weight loss by stimulating circulation and breaking down fat cells. Check out these detox tips.
Clay detox bath ingredients
¼ cup dry goat’s milk
¼ cup French green clay
1 cup Epsom salts
¼ cup oats
¼ cup dried rosemary
1 tsp sweet almond oil
10 drops rosemary essential oil
I like to add essential oils because they have healing properties. I used rosemary essential oil to go with the dried rosemary. However, you can add other natural oils to your bath salts.
Please do not use artificial fragrances because they contain toxins.
To make a larger batch just increases the ingredients. If you use 1 cup of clay, use 1 cup of dry goat’s milk, 1 cup of oats, and 1 cup of dried rosemary.
How to make a clay bath
- Add the goat’s milk and measured clay powder to a blender or Ninja.
- Add half, or all, of the oats and rosemary, depending on if you plan to layer the jars or not.
- Blend.
- Add the oils, and stir well.
- Stir in the Epsom salt.
- Pour into jars or vials, layering with whole dry oats and rosemary if you wish.
- To use, slowly pour two tablespoons into your bath water.
Post bath care
After your bath, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. You may also want to apply a moisturizer to your skin.
I find that a few deep breaths while I apply a face mask helps me to relax after a hot bath.
If you have any clay bath salts left over, store them in an airtight container in a cool, dark place.
How long should I soak in a clay bath?
You should soak in a clay bath for at least 20 minutes. This will give your body time to absorb the minerals and detox.
Can I take a clay bath every day?
You can take a clay bath once or twice a week. If you are new to clay baths, start slowly and see how your body reacts. You can always increase the frequency if you find that you tolerate them well.
