Beeswax Lotion Bar Recipe
Solid soap bars are filled with skin softeners found in traditional body lotions. They make a great spot treatment for dry skin, hands, or feet.
However, they are also useful to moisturize the body. The lotion is applied by rubbing on a dry area. The body temperature melts the lotion slightly when it is touching the skin.
The product will be applied in the same way as normal lotion. You can also use lotion bars in massage bars. The only soap molds needed are massage bars. Apply this on your hand like rubbing soap onto your hand.
I love making lotion bars and other natural beauty products. Have you ever tried my lip balms? Or, you might want to try these DIY lotion bars. There are lots of natural products you can make yourself with essential oils or fragrances.
What is a lotion bar?
A lotion bar is a solidified beauty product that resembles a soap bar. It is made out of wax, oils, and butter. These bars can be used as traditional body lotion by rubbing it onto dry skin or they can also be used as massage bars.
Are lotion bars good for sensitive skin?
Lotion bars are great for people with delicate skin. They are gentle and do not have any harsh chemicals. The ingredients used in lotion bars are all-natural and will not cause any irritation.
If you are concerned, you can use essential oils rather than fragrance oils when you make this DIY lotion bar recipe.
What are the benefits of using a lotion bar?
The benefits of using lotion bars are:
-They are easy to use and do not require a lot of application to help improve chapped skin and keep skin soft and supple.
-The bars can be used as traditional body lotion or as massage bars. They work great for cracked skin.
-Bars usually last up to one year if stored in a cool, dry place.
Can I add Vitamin E?
Yes, you can add Vitamin E to this DIY lotion bar recipe. It is a great antioxidant that helps improve the appearance of the skin.
It is also beneficial in helping to protect skin from the sun. You can add 1-2 teaspoons of Vitamin E oil to this recipe.
What ingredients are in this beeswax lotion bar recipe?
The ingredients in this solid lotion bars recipe are:
- 3 oz beeswax pellets
- 3 oz shea butter, cocoa butter, or mango butter
- 2-3 oz coconut oil
- Vitamin e (optional)
- 20 drops plumeria fragrance oil
- ⅛ tsp Purplish Red Mica Powder
- Flower silicone lotion bar mold
- 4 cup microwave-safe measuring cup (or double boiler)
- Kitchen scale
You can find beeswax along with the other ingredients at your local craft store. Or, you can find bees wax pellets on Amazon.
This lotion bar recipe was made with fragrance oils to give it a floral plumeria scent. If you prefer, you can add essential oils instead.
How do I make this beeswax lotion bar recipe?
- Measure your beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil by weight. You will need 3 ounces of each.
- In the measuring cup, layer in order, beeswax, shea butter, then coconut oil.
- Heat in 30-second bursts, removing and stirring well after each heat session, until everything is fully melted. The beeswax will take the longest to melt.
- Add fragrance or essential oils, and mica powder. Stir very well for a few minutes to make sure the color is fully combined.
- Set mold on a cutting board or baking sheet. Pour into the molds.
- Refrigerate for 1-2 hours to set.
- Remove the lotion bars from mold and store solid lotion bars in an airtight container.
Note: If you don’t have a microwave, you can also melt the ingredients in a double boiler when you make lotion bars.
Can I make this without lotion bar molds?
Yes, if you don’t have lotion bar molds, you can make this basic recipe and pour it into muffin tins instead. Or, you can make lotion sticks by pouring it into a deodorant container.
Or, if you have a soap mold, you can use any silicone mold for your lotion bars. You can pour the lotion into metal tins with lids if you prefer to store it that way.
Can I make this with more coconut oil?
I wouldn’t use any more coconut oil when you make these lotion bars. If it is too warm, you will have liquid oil and that won’t work for solid lotion bars. Keep the ingredients as-is for a hard lotion bar.
These beeswax lotion bars will hold their shape even on days that are hot. If you live in a very hot climate, you may want to add a bit more shea butter.
What type of essential oils are best for lotion bars?
When you make homemade lotion bars, you can add any essential oil or fragrance oil you like. Experiment to see which oils you like best when you make your lotion bars. Or, you can leave out the essential oil and make your lotion bar unscented.
- Citrus essential oils
- Rose essential oil
- Sweet orange essential oil
- Tea tree oil
- Orange essential oils
- Lavender essential oil
What is the shelf life of lotion bars?
If stored in a cool, dry place, lotion bars will have a shelf life of up to one year.
Do not expose your lotion bar to heat. You want them to be solid at room temperature. They will soften when exposed to your body heat.
How to use lotion bars?
Lotion bars can be used as traditional body lotion or as massage bars. They work great for cracked skin. You can also use them on your face.
Just rub the lotion bars over your body. Work the lotion into areas where you have flaky skin or notice dry skin patches.
If you have very dry skin, you can use them several times a day. They work well right after a shower or bath.
I love lotion bars because they work so much better than traditional lotion if you have very dry skin. They leave my skin with a healthy glow.
