How to Have a Beautiful Smile
Like the rest of our body, our smile changes as we age. Oh, if I only had the same body I did at 18! There’s one thing for certain, though, no matter what your age, a natural smile can make you look younger.
While you can’t turn back the hands of time or stop aging at 18, there are things you can do to have a gorgeous smile. So, the sooner you begin and the more consistent you are, the easier it will be. Here are a few things that I do.
Practice good oral hygiene
Be sure that you have a daily routine where you pay attention to your oral hygiene. Did you know that simply swishing your mouth with mouthwash or plain water can help to reduce the acids, sugars, and food particles that are harmful to your teeth?
When you brush your teeth, don’t rush. Did you know that you should be brushing for at least two minutes? Using an electric toothbrush can help as well especially this one that has a two-minute timer! Make sure that you are using fluoride toothpaste to help protect again cavities. Don’t forget to brush your tongue while brushing to keep that smile healthy.
Did you know that gum disease is associated with both diabetes and cardiovascular disease?
Improve your diet
Avoid sugary foods and foods that can stain your teeth or cause excessive plaque build up. Did you know that foods with fiber help keep your mouth clean according to the University of Rochester Medical Center? Avoid sticky candies and sweets, soft carbohydrates, carbonated beverages, and alcohol. Finally, make sure that you drink more water.
Coffee, tea, and smoking are the worst causes of tooth discoloration. If your teeth are stained, consider a whitening product to bleach the enamel. But, use it with caution since it can weaken the enamel of your teeth if overused.
How to smile more
If you don’t normally smile a lot, it will take a conscious effort to do it more often. So, you may want to try leaving a reminder on the refrigerator so you see it when you wake up. Or, set reminders on your phone. Try smiling at everyone you meet today. Finally, focus on thinking happy thoughts.
How to smile more attractively
Smiling more attractively has a lot to do with self-confidence. When you’re confident about how you look, you’ll find that your smile is more natural. So, here are a few things to consider that might impact how you look and feel.
Don’t let your lipstick bleed. Bleeding lipstick settles into the fine lines around your lips which will definitely age your smile. Use a moisturizer, then a foundation, then a lip color.
Use a plumping lipstick. Lips thin as we age. Use a lipstick that “plumps” to return the fullness to your lips. This homemade lip plumper is very easy to make and really works. Or, learn more about how to make your lips plump naturally.
Keep your lips moist. Never apply lipstick or lip stain to lips that are dry because it can result in flaking. You can use a homemade lip gloss or buy one at the store. Finally, check out these easy lip gloss recipes you can make.
How do you smile more naturally?
A real smile cannot be faked. If you’re not used to it and you need to have a photograph taken where you’d like to smile, try these tips. Close your eyes and relax your facial muscles.
Think about something that makes you happy. Imagine someone in front of you that makes you smile. Pay attention to the way your body responds to these images.
How to have a beautiful smile that’s healthy
The best way to have a beautiful smile is to take care of your oral health. So, see the dentist at least two times per year. Seeing your dentist throughout the year helps you spot problems before they require expensive treatments.
