Summer Sun Tips from Aveeno

To kick off the summer, following are a few summer sun tips from board certified dermatologist and the director of her own practice, Image Dermatology, Dr. Jeanine Downie.

  1.  Ears, posterior neck, hands and the tops of feet are the most overlooked places for sun protection.
  2. Use a hypoallergenic, non-comedegenic sunscreen, like AVEENO® Protect + Hydrate Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30, underneath your eyes consistently and do not rub your eyes. This alone with decrease dark circles.
  3. I am seeing more scalp skin cancers, many of which can be avoided. Protect your scalp from the sun by applying a spray sunscreen to your hair, on your part, like AVEENO® HYDROSPORT® Wet Skin Spray Sunscreen SPF 30.

Aveeno products can be purchased from drug stores and mass retailers nationwide.

  1. The nose too! You always think you have it covered but you often miss. My poor hubby – who was a carrot top when he was a boy – has had many a skin cancer removed and he well knows how to apply the goop.

Aveeno makes excellent products. I use the hand lotion.

  2. I love Aveeno HydroSport spray sunscreen, it goes on really easy and is great on pool days. I, personally, have a very sensitive scalp, so I am always sure to keep my head covered or sprayed!

  3. Great tips, especially keeping your head covered. You can’t really use sunscreen if you have hair, but you can burn on your head if you have hair. Ouch! I always sunscreen up before I put my bathing suit on. I learned once when I was a teenager that it’s easy to miss right along your bathing suit when applying sunscreen. It means for some strange tanlines, and painful burns 🙁

  4. Great tips! I always forget my ears. Seriously! I haven’t a clue why. And it is really surprising how often people are now getting sunburns on their heads! Even without a sunburn it is still important to protect our heads again the sun too. I always try to wear a hat now.

    • I am not sure that it’s necessarily scented but the scent reminds me of your standard sun tan lotion?
