Style Trends for Fall 2013

Fall has arrived in Vermont and the reds, oranges and golds have gotten me thinking about style trends for fall.  One of the challenges of style trends for fall 2013 is that they are often covered up by bulky outerwear.  Invest in eye-catching outerwear this year instead of that same old bulky winter jacket.  If you have a statement piece in a bright or textured fabric, go simple with the rest of your outfit.

Add a hat to your outfit. It will not only keep your head warm, it will give your outfit a bit of style.  Don’t think that there is only one type of bulky winter hat.  Try a cute fedora or a beanie one day!

Don’t forget patterns.  While the floral patterns of spring and summer may need to be packed away.  That doesn’t mean you cannot enjoy patterns.   Houndstooth is in this season and works wonderfully paired with many different colors.

According to Glamour Fashion, leopard print is in style this year.  Try some cute leopard print boots or even a scarf when putting together your outfit.  Don’t go crazy though. One leopard print item per outfit is more than enough.

Emerald green is in as a fall color.  This is one of the style trends for fall that makes me very happy.  Emerald green is a very versatile color. You can easily pair it with black, brown or grey.  Don’t be afraid to add in other fall colors as accent pieces like this gorgeous Style Goddess Bracelet from mark fashion. The wine and russet-colored faux stones with faux topaz stones in a bronzetone setting make this the perfect bracelet for fall.

I know traditionalists say don’t wear white after Labor Day, but I disagree.  I winter white chunky knit sweater or denim jacket can add brightness to your fall wardrobe.

Don’t be afraid of peplum but do make sure you choose the one that’s right for your figure. Depending on where it’s placed, it can help define your waist or add curves where you need them. Since my hips are NOT my best feature, I tend to avoid peplum. It may be the right fall choice for you.

  1. Great minds think alike… I also wrote about the style trends for the fall. My favorites are oxblood everything as well as the re-imagined combat boots. I have to agree with you about loving the emerald clothing. It is such a fun color and it looks great on so many people. – Katy

  2. Lovely bracelet! I think my favorite thing about fall is scarves. So many colors and textures, and it can really make an outfit. Tights are a fun way to change a look too…a basic sweater dress can look so different depending upon what legwear you use. It’s not quite cool enough here for heavy fall knits, but I’m really looking forward to changing over my wardrobe!

  3. I love the colors of the wine and russet-colored faux stones with faux topaz stones in a bronzetone setting in the bracelet. I want to add a lot of rust to my winter wardrobe and a bracelet like this would be my go to accessory to wear.

  4. I’m definitely not the most fashionable person in the world so I’m never up on the latest trends for the seasons. I must say from reading your post, I’m excited about being able to accessorize your fall attire whether it be fashionable outer wear or something in emerald green ^.^
