Do you know why a silicone free hair product is the best choice? At 49, I pay a lot of attention to my hair. I try to hide the grey hairs and add body and volume. I add back hydration that the coloring and heat styling removes. Without attention, my hair is flat, dull and lifeless, and it ages me. I’ve been reevaluating the products that I use in my home and my hair care products are no different.

Silicone Free Hair Product
If you’ve ever taken a look at the ingredients in your hair care products, you may have seen things like cyclomethicone, dimethiconol, amodimethicone, or lauryl methicone copolyol. If you have, your hair product contains silicone. So, what’s the problem with silicone? Silicone is a synthetic product used to make things like rubber, plastics, polishes, and lubricants.
Silicone is used to moisten, lubricate and add shine. You’d think that was a good thing, but it’s not. Non-soluble silicone may make your hair look good from the outside, but it prevents real nutrients from your conditioner from penetrating the hair shaft to improve the health of your hair. It also weighs your hair down which can make your hair limp and lifeless – not good for anyone who is starting to experience thinning hair due to aging.
When looking for a new styling aid, look for a silicone free hair product. On the ingredients list, look for words that contain *con* which is what most silicone will be listed as. Silicones don’t really benefit your hair in any way, they simply mask the problem at best or make the problem worse in the worst case. Instead, look for a product that will hydrate your hair without adding silicone like the Hair Hydrating Mask Treatment from Harklinikken.
My thoughts:
This hair mask opens the hair shaft adding intense hydration without the use of silicone and similar substances that leave a film on the hair. This is a natural product that leaves the hair much softer and healthier and improves its elasticity and shine. I love that this is based on quinoa, flax seeds, olive oil, avocado oil and extracts from plants and flowers. Plus there are no colors, perfumes, silicone, petrochemicals or problematic preservatives!
I just applied a small amount to my damp hair and allowed it to sit for about five minutes. The directions say you can leave it on for up to thirty minutes, but with my fine hair, I found that five minutes was fine. It has a very fresh scent with maybe a tiny hint of citrus. It didn’t weigh my hair down at all and left it feeling very soft and touchable.

I know what’s in my natural hair products I use daily but I’ll look for the silicones in the samples I receive and pass them on to others who may want them! I didn’t know that about silicone for the hair. I do not need more things thinning my hair, that’s for sure.
I completely agree! I’ve started checking for silicone myself!
